About US

The Game Played in Heaven

As the popularity of rugby is still growing in the United States and New Mexico so do the opportunities for our student athletes. In the 2021, despite complications with the COVID 19 Pandemic, AYRU provided competitions for 100 youth and high school students. This last year our high school athletes were able to compete abroad in both Austin Texas and Salt Lake City Utah in Regional/National level tournaments.

Over the last few years, we have had several athletes earn scholarships for various universities across the US and 2 notable mentions from New Mexico – Olympian Jillian Potter and current US Men’s World Cup athlete Kevon Williams (New Mexico Highlands University) bring credit to the athletes this state can produce. Our alumni that have gone on to play for BYU, Lindenwood, Iowa Central Community College (2019 DIAA Champions), Queens University at Charlotte College (2019 DII Finalist), Grand Canyon University, Texas Tech, Texas A&M, University of Lafayette, College of Notre Dame, Colorado State University, Central Washington University, Trinity Christian University, University of New Mexico, New Mexico Tech, New Mexico State University, New Mexico Highlands University, Clemson University, University of Louisville, and University of Arizona.
